Donald Gene Opp

Donald Gene Opp, 70, of Tamaroa, passed away at 8:30 p.m., Tuesday, May 6, 2008 at his residence.

Donald was a farmer.  He was a member of Friendship Church of Christ in Tamaroa and was an Elder and Deacon of the church for years.  He was a member of Perry County Farm Bureau and was on the Farm Bureau Board.  He was also a member of the 204 School Board.  He was a U.S. Army veteran.

He was born April 11, 1938 at Tamaroa, the son of Russell B. and Ruth E. (Morrow) Opp.
He married Frances Y. Ripley on November 25, 1962, at Pleasant Hill Christian Church in Murphysboro, and she survives.

He is survived by his wife of Tamaroa; one son, Gene A. Opp and wife Cindy of Tamaroa; two grandchildren, C.J. Opp and Caitie Opp, both of Tamaroa; two brothers, Robert Opp and wife Judy and Gale Opp and wife Julie, all of Tamaroa; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, William Opp; and one sister-in-law, Mary Opp.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m., Saturday, May 10, 2008 at the Friendship Church of Christ in Tamaroa with Bro. Randy Allison and Bro. Darrell McCombs officiating.

Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m., Friday at the Searby Funeral Home in Tamaroa and from 9 a.m. until the time of service on Saturday at the church.

Burial will be in the Sunset Memorial Park at Du Quoin.

Friends may make memorials to the Friendship Church of Christ or Hospice of Southern Illinois and will be accepted at the funeral home.
